Hearing students are also welcome.
At two YMCAs in Rochester, NY, there’s a special class that meets weekly, Rochester First reports.
It’s called “ASL Fitness” and the primary language in the class is American Sign Language.
Personal trainer Janna Sirianni provides variety of exercises: “Some days it will be cardio-based, some days it will be HIIT based, some days strength-based, maybe core-based, where a bunch of individuals with the same language and the same culture can get together and work out.”
Sirianni started the first class in the summer of 2016 at Rochester’s Eastside YMCA.
Sirianni says mostly Deaf people come to the class, but that it’s an inclusive environment: hearing students are welcome.
