New Movie About the Life of Jesus Would Target Deaf Audience

Actors to perform in American Sign Language.

Countless movies and television series with biblical themes have been produced over the years, but there’s one audience that has never seen the New Testament story in their own language: the estimated 70 million people worldwide who are deaf.

Now two ministries are planning a motion picture about the life of Jesus, CBN News reports. They aim to be produce the film within the next few years, and it would feature actors signing their parts using American Sign Language (ASL).

Deaf Missions and the Jesus Film Project are using crowd funding sources and have raised $1 million of the $4.8 million needed for the production.

The movie would use native signers to “bring the story of Jesus to life” from a “Deaf perspective for a deaf audience,” according to the ministry’s website.
