For Athletes, Eyesight Is More Important Than Strength or Speed

New research shows vision can make or break a career.

In recent years, every field in sports has been painstakingly analyzed to figure out how to improve athletes’ performance.

Now new research has shown that the most important physical attribute for an athlete may be unusually sharp eyesight, Calcalnet reports.

Daniel Laby, a sports vision specialist at the State University of New York College of Optometry, has spent 20 years studying athletes’ vision and helping elite athletes improve their performance.

In the 1990s he conducted research that showed the best major league baseball players were those with the best vision — and that’s also true for other sports, he asserts, including soccer, tennis and football.

Dr. Laby began his work with the Los Angeles Dodgers and he has worked with many other major league baseball teams, as well as the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings.
