Firefighters in Maine Rescue Blind, Deaf Dog

Bridge temporarily closed.

The Fire Department in Waterville, Maine was alerted last weekend about a small dog trapped on a riverbank near a bridge after it was swept downstream, the Bangor Daily News reports.

The bridge was temporarily closed as the department’s Special Operations Team used a ladder to descend from the bridge to the dog’s location, the department said in the Facebook post. Lt. Ryan Cote found a “wet, blind, and deaf terrier,” the department said.

Once the pooch was safe, the crew was able to locate its owner.

“WFD proudly serves our residents, but sometimes even our pets will find themselves in a bind,” the department said in the Facebook post.
