Chase Opens First Bank for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

​JPMorgan Chase has officially opened the first retail banking branch designed to serve the deaf and hard of hearing, WJLA TV reports.

The branch is located in Washington, DC’s H Street corridor and incorporates technology and design elements to best serve people with hearing loss.

The bank is also announcing a new, $250,000 philanthropic commitment to Gallaudet University’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute to open career pathways for Gallaudet’s deaf and hard of hearing students.

Six of the branch’s nine employees are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), and three identify as deaf or hard of hearing.
