Buddies from the San Fernando Valley Create a Podcast About Being Deaf

When Sarah Tubert was three, a surgeon severed her facial nerve, paralyzing the right side of her face and taking out her hearing in an operation. Today she is an actress, Captain of the USA National Deaf Women’s Volleyball team, and a signer of songs, with her latest a collaboration with DisneyMusicVevo for the song “Show Yourself,” from Frozen II.

Carly Weyers comes from a family that is entirely deaf except for her sister. In college, she chose Communication Studies and Sociology as her major because she wanted to work with people. “It taught me how the social world works, and how to understand why people think and act the way they do,” she says on the website of ‘What the Deaf,’ the podcast the two women have created together.

They have been best friends since they met at Gallaudet University, and their podcast invites listeners to “share their journeys of dating, working, and living in a hearing world.”
