She can’t see the ball, but she can hear it.
She reached her senior year at Clintonville High School in Wisconsin without the experience of playing on a sports team. But though she is blind, Shayna Wederath still wanted to try.
Then a friend mentioned that the school’s tennis team needed players, and that the coach was open to different kinds of players.
Shayna came to the first practice and made the team.
At a school for the blind, she fell in love with adaptive sports. She relies on her hearing to tell her where the ball bounces, and relentless practice with serving has developed her muscle memory.
Last week she played her first doubles match on the school team.
She is applying to college this year and is hoping to try out for the track team when she gets there.
