Directors’ Stories

Bill Walters – Vice President
When Bill Walters became a Lion in 1979, his club took a field trip to the Doheny Eye Institute in Santa Monica.
“I was fascinated by the work they were doing,” he says. He quickly became involved with LSH’s predecessor foundation, joining its board of directors, and he’s been a member of the LSH board since our founding in 2009.
“There are so many wonderful things that Lions are doing,” he says. But he thinks his work for LSH is special.
When he meets potential members for his club, he shows them the LSH Annual Report. “It’s not a little thing we’re doing,” he says.
The best part of his work, Bill says, is the opportunity to serve his community. “Every time we do an eye screening, I say, ‘Thank you for coming.’ Those people give me an opportunity to help.”
For Bill, that’s what Lionism is all about: “It’s something in your heart.”
