Samantha Helen was a healthy 26-year-old when she was hit with Covid-19. The virus caused her brain to swell, and it permanently affected her vision. A talented makeup artist, Samantha had to learn to navigate with limited eyesight. She’s been told she has nerve damage and that she will probably develop cataracts in the future.
You can read more about her story here.
Why am I telling you this? Because as vaccines become available and restrictions ease, it’s all too easy for us to decide that the danger is over. Unfortunately, it’s not.
In most places, people who are Samantha’s age are still not eligible for the vaccine. And it’s unclear whether those who are vaccinated can still transmit the virus.
The signs are hopeful. We may approaching the end of this frustrating period in our lives — but only if we hang on a little longer, continue to use masks and protect each other.
