When Bill Walters became a Lion in 1979, his club took a field trip to the Doheny Eye Institute in Santa Monica.
“I was fascinated by the work they were doing,” he said. He quickly became involved with LSH’s predecessor foundation, joining its board of directors, and he was a member of the LSH board since our founding in 2009 until his passing.
“There are so many wonderful things that Lions are doing,” he would say. But he thinks his work for LSH is special.
When he meets potential members for his club, he shows them the LSH Annual Report. “It’s not a little thing we’re doing,” he would say to them.
The best part of his work is the opportunity to serve his community. “Every time we do an eye screening, Bill always would call out ‘Thank you for coming.’ Those people give me an opportunity to help.”
For Bill, that’s what Lionism is all about: “It’s something in your heart.”
